what's this about?

I know that you're probably thinking the Internet doesn't need another blog about alcohol, but this isn't going to be just about throwing some random liquor together and hoping for the best.  Although that sometimes turns out great, that's not what this blog's about.

I'm searching for my favorite cocktail.  Not just my favorite cocktail, but my favorite version.  I've ordered a Jack and Coke in some clubs and been given a Canadian Club and herbal tea...okay, maybe that was in a horrible club, and it was their interpretation of a Jack and Coke but still, there doesn't seem to be any consistency from one bartender to another for standard, well known drinks.

I looked for official recipes, but for what; every drink known in existence?  Just the fruit based ones?  The ones with more than one non-liquor ingredient?  I finally came across an organization called the International Bartenders Association that have an official list with recipes that bartenders from around the world agree on.  This was the list I was looking for!  Drinking the IBA was born.

I'm going to compare two drinks at a time, and update the blog a couple of times a month.  So there will be one winner each update, and that winner will move onto the next round.  I might take a couple of sidetracks a couple of times, but for the most part, I'll be sticking to the list.

I should mention that this site is in no way affiliated with or endorsed by the IBA, although I've heard that one of its members thinks the layout is "neat-o".

Cheers!
Dave
